The Grondwet (Constitution) is the supreme law of the Netherlands, containing fundamental rights like freedom of speech, religion, and equal treatment. Dutch citizens aged 18+ can vote in elections for local councils, provincial councils, national parliament, and European Parliament.

Study note

The Dutch take equal rights seriously. Discrimination based on religion, gender, sexual orientation, or background is prohibited by law. The Netherlands was the first country to legalize same-sex marriage (2001).
