Dutch consumers have strong legal protections. If you buy something that breaks within 2 years, you usually have the right to repair or replacement (garantie). For online purchases, you have 14 days to return items without explanation (herroepingsrecht). The Consumentenbond advocates for consumer rights.
| Right | Dutch | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Warranty | Garantie | At least 2 years for defects |
| Return right (online) | Herroepingsrecht | 14 days, no reason needed |
| Receipt | Kassabon | Keep for warranty claims |
| Complaint | Klacht | First to seller, then mediator |
| Consumer association | Consumentenbond | Information and support |
| Dispute resolution | Geschillencommissie | Independent mediation |

Study note
Always keep receipts (kassabonnen) or order confirmations. For expensive items, pay by card for extra protection. If a company won't help, contact the Juridisch Loket for free legal advice. The Geschillencommissie can mediate disputes without going to court.
