Dutch tenants have strong legal protections. Your landlord cannot evict you without a court order, and rent increases are regulated by law. In return, you must pay rent on time, maintain the property, not cause nuisance, and follow house rules (huisregels).

Study note

Keep all communication with your landlord in writing (email is fine). If you have a dispute, the Huurcommissie (Rent Tribunal) can help for social housing. For private rental disputes, you may need a lawyer. The Juridisch Loket offers free legal advice.
