Inburgering A2 vs B1 Nt2: What Is the Difference?
Compare A2 inburgering and B1 Nt2 Programma I by official route checks, exam parts, KNM, difficulty, and which practice to choose.
A2 inburgering and B1 Nt2 both test Dutch, but the level, exam family, and practice route are different.
A2 focuses on practical everyday Dutch and, for many learners, includes KNM. B1 Nt2 Programma I is a higher language exam with reading, listening, speaking, and writing at B1 level.
Do not mix the official routes
DUO says B1 and B2 language exams are the Dutch as a second language state exam (Nt2). Staatsexamens Nt2 says Programma I is B1 and has four language parts. KNM is an inburgering knowledge exam, not a Programma I language part. If your PIP or Mijn Inburgering names a specific level, follow that official route.

|---|---|---|
| A2 language exams or A2 inburgering | A2 reading, listening, speaking, writing, and KNM | The practice should match the level and inburgering format |
| B1 route with Staatsexamen Nt2 Programma I | B1 Nt2 reading, listening, speaking, and writing | Programma I is a B1 language exam route |
| B2 or Programma II | B2 Nt2 material, not A2 or B1 practice | The level and task demands are higher |
