Know what to bring to the A2 inburgering exam, which ID and confidentiality rules matter, and how to avoid exam-day problems.

Reviewed against official sources - Updated 2026-05-10

Exam-day preparation is part of passing. If you miss an important rule, DUO says you may not be able to take the exam.

Questions this guide answers

  • What should I bring to the inburgering exam location?
  • What happens if I do not have a valid ID?
  • Which items should I keep away during the exam?
  • When should I arrange an adjusted exam?

Bring this

  • A valid ID. DUO says you must show your ID before taking the exam.
  • Your DUO exam letter or exam information.
  • A cup if you want coffee or tea in the waiting area.
  • Only allowed items. Keep phone and private items away according to the rules.

Confidentiality

DUO states that exam content is confidential. You may not take photos, copy assignments, or tell others exam content.

Before you go

Check address
Use the address and time in your DUO letter.
Arrive early
Plan extra travel time so you are not rushed.
ID check
No valid ID can mean no exam.
Rules
Read the rules in your invitation and DUO exam regulations.

If you need an adjusted exam

DUO has a separate process for an adjusted exam in case of illness or disability. Arrange this before the exam through official DUO channels.

The evening before

Put your ID and exam information in one place, check the travel route, and read the invitation one more time. The goal is to arrive calm, not to learn new Dutch at the last moment.
