Which Inburgering Exams Do I Need? A2, KNM, MAP, ONA, and PVT

There is no single inburgering exam list that applies to everyone. DUO says your required exams depend on the law that applies to you and your personal integration route.

If you are unsure, check Mijn Inburgering first. Under the 2021 Act, the municipality makes a personal integration and participation plan (PIP), and that plan says which educational track and exams apply to you.

Common parts people see

Reading, Listening, Writing, Speaking: The four language skills. At A2, these are inburgering language exams.
KNM: Knowledge of Dutch Society, a computer exam about Dutch society themes.
MAP: Module Labour Market and Participation. DUO says this is done with the municipality under the 2021 Act if your PIP requires it.
ONA: Orientation on the Dutch Labour Market. DUO says this is for the 2013 Act or voluntary integration, with exemptions in some cases.

Do not guess your exam list

Learners often ask if they need only the language exams or also KNM, MAP, ONA, or PVT. The safe answer is: check Mijn Inburgering and your municipality/PIP, because taking the wrong exam or level can waste time and money.

Common mistakes to avoid

Do not assume ONA applies if you are under the 2021 Act.
Do not try to book MAP or PVT through the normal A2 exam booking flow; DUO says these activities are with the municipality.
Do not use an online checklist as the final authority if Mijn Inburgering shows a different exam list.
Do not rely only on A2 practice if Mijn Inburgering shows a B1 or B2 language exam route.
